The BIVF Foundation exists to help people who dream of becoming parents.

For some people, the financial burden of family building is significant.

The BIVF Foundation believes that this expense should not put parenthood out of reach.

Think of our grants as scholarships that you can use at any qualified IVF center in MA, ME, NH, or RI. Some grants can also be used to defray other costs associated with family building, including adoption and fertility preservation.

For individuals with a recent cancer diagnosis who urgently need to preserve their fertility prior to starting treatment, these grants cover the costs associated with an egg freezing cycle.

Grants helping families grow

With a finite amount of assistance available, our selection process prioritizes individuals who meet certain criteria.

Applicants must:

  • Live in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island
  • Demonstrate a need for fertility care through a medical diagnosis of infertility, a medical diagnosis that qualifies an individual for egg freezing, or needed care due to being single or part of an LGBTQ+ couple.
  • Have a household income of < $200,000
  • Demonstrate a lack of fertility or family building insurance coverage
  • Medical verification (e.g. lab results) may be required for grants related to specific treatments

We collect a nonrefundable $25 application fee.

Grants may be used for treatment at any SART-qualified fertility center or adoption agency.

How are grant recipients selected?

An experienced Medical Advisory Board Committee, comprised of the top experts in reproductive care across New England, will review all applications during our annual grant application cycle.

How are grant funds distributed?

Grant money will be paid directly to the fertility clinic of the grant recipient’s choice. No money will be directly distributed to grant recipient(s) or private parties.

Do recipients need to use grant money within a certain timeframe?

Grant recipients have 12 months to utilize the awarded money before it is returned to its specific grant fund.

Recipients will be notified by phone/email/letter if they have been selected to receive a grant.

Grants can only be used for future treatments/services.

Why is there a grant application fee?

The grant application fee helps us know who is truly serious about receiving a grant and for the right reason. 100% of grant application fees go toward the grant fund and will be disbursed to selected individuals. Each grant application fee is $25.

We disperse all grants once per year.

Absolutely. Applicants can continue to reapply, as long as they meet the grant qualifications.

Who is eligible for BIVF Foundation IVF Cycle Grants?

Our IVF Cycle Grants offer an avenue to IVF for individuals without fertility insurance coverage. Grants cover an IVF cycle at any SART-accredited center in MA, ME, NH, and RI.

Recipients receive all procedure-related services (consultations, testing, IUI, egg retrieval, single embryo transfer) unless otherwise recommended by the treating physician. Medication costs are not included in this grant.

Candidate Eligibility Criteria:

  • Live in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island
  • Have no/limited coverage for IVF
  • Have two or fewer children
  • Have a diagnosis of infertility certified by a physician
  • LGBTQ+ individuals and couples are eligible to apply
  • Those with a history of tubal ligation or vasectomy who meet all other selection criteria are eligible to apply
  • Have a household income of < $200,000

Additionally, recipients who wish to use this grant towards IVF, frozen embryo transfer, or Gestational Carrier with their own eggs MUST meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Complete all required medical testing within the specified timeframes
  • Applicants who do not submit this information within the required time frame will not be considered
  • Be 41 years or younger by March 10, 2025
  • Have a body mass index (BMI) <40
  • Have a FSH level of <15
  • Have an AMH level of > 0.5
  • Applicants who do not meet financial, age, or medical criteria will not have their applications reviewed

IVF Cycle Grant Definitions

The following services are included in our IVF Cycle grant:

  • Pre-op visit
  • Ultrasound follicle monitoring
  • Serum hormone assays during stimulation
  • Egg retrieval (OR fees, surgeon fees, lab fees)
  • Sperm preparation/oocyte processing on day of egg retrieval
  • Anesthesia fee for retrieval
  • Embryo transfer (OR fees, surgeon fees, lab fees)
  • Post-op visit

The following services are NOT included in the grant:

  • Initial consultation and physical exam
  • Baseline ultrasound follicle monitoring and serum hormone assays prior to stimulation
  • Preliminary cultures and blood screening, and examination of uterine cavity (e.g. sonohysterography, hysterosalpingogram and/or hysterography)
  • All male partner testing (e.g. preliminary cultures and blood screening, semen analysis)
  • Semen storage and semen cryopreservation
  • Sperm preparation involving testicular aspiration (i.e. TESA, MESA)
  • Donor sperm or donor eggs
  • Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)
  • Embryo freezing (includes storage for up to three months)
  • Annual storage fee billed on the anniversary of the cryopreservation of the eggs/embryos/sperm
  • Anesthesia (if used for uterine transfer)
  • Assisted hatching
  • Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A or PGT-M) and biopsy
  • Medications and pharmaceutical products
  • Hospital fees, outside consultation or other services for managing complications
